We arrived in Budapest around lunch time on Sunday. A local guide met us after we had lunch in the markets. She took us around the Fishermen’s Bastion (which is really just a street/square on Gellert Hill). We also saw Heroes Square and the very impressive Parliament House which used 40kg of pure gold. It was interesting to have a local guide as she was 14 when the Communism reign ended. On the tour with the local guide we somehow managed to leave a couple in our group behind and it took us a while to find them again.
That night we had a traditional Hungarian group meal with the Gypsies which was quite different, we even had to balance bottles of wine on our heads!
The next day we spent relaxing as there wasn’t much left to see in Budapest but we did go for a 4 hour walk down the main streets of the city.
On Tuesday we had the drive to Czech Republic and drove through Slovakia which looked very similar to Hungary. I don’t think I would like to return to either country but they are good to see.
